New Sundog Mark Melnyk Signature Series Sunglasses PDF Print E-mail

Sundog sunglasses is introducing a new line, the Mark Melnyk Signature Series, which features its Mela-Lens technology. But, what the heck is a Mela-Lens in the first place? Mela is short for Melanin, the natural pigment in your skin which protects you from the sun. Sundogs’ Mela-Lens glasses are infused with a synthetic melanin, which absorbs UV light over a broad spectral range to provide 98 percent blue-light filtration and 100 percent UVA/B protection. By filtering instead of blocking the blue light, Mela-Lens Technology doesn’t affect color perception or downgrade visual acuity.

I tried a pair of the Melnyk Series glasses and found the optics excellent; you won’t mistake these for a pair of cheap shades that do more harm than good. And this line is designed specifically for fishermen (aw, shucks!) with three models to fit different angling situations: the 22 Degrees (with an open bottom frame for sight fishing), Phantom (full frames for all conditions), and Halo (with wide, sun-blocking arms for maximum protection on super-bright days). The Halos are my favorite, because they really cut out as much light as possible – grab a pair of these, when you’re heading offshore on a clear day in August.

Mark Melnyk, the host of WFN’s Reel Fishy Jobs, is from north of the boarder and he says “aboot” instead of “about,” so fry up a slice of Canadian bacon and check out a complete run-down on the series in this video
