Here’s a heads-up for all anglers: next week on EarthSports, it’s “Women in Fishing” week. Every day from Monday through Friday, we’ll be featuring women who make their living by fishing, female fishing teams, famous lady anglers, and similar topics. There’s one really cool article I was working on this week, which I figured everyone would be particularly interested in: a chemical called L-serine, which is documented to repel certain species of fish. This stuff is on your skin, and the really fascinating thing is that women (and pre-adolescent children) have less of it than full-grown men do, by a long shot. What a great “why she caught more than me” fishing excuse!!! Be sure to check it out!

Today I was meant to go on a fishing trip, but didnt go because it was all men. I put my name down for this group, as I was told that it was a mixed group. When they arrived I was told that only men go on these trips and that fishing is a men's only sport. I find it quite discriminatory, as I enjoy fishing. I have seen other women fishing when I have been down the beach etc. In this century, we need to stop attitudes like this, women can do anything, we should not be limmited to things that men see as women only or not allowed to participate in activities that men claim belong to them and no one else.
